The Hyde County Wildlife Committee will be meeting on July 10th at 7 pm. They will be discussing the SHL(Safe Hunter Law) and possible blind licensing as Commissioners Pugh and Simmons continue to try to force this law through in the face of overwhelming opposition.

There is time to make arrangements to be there. You take off early from work for ball games, to go hunting, fishing, etc. Make time for something that really matters.Once your right to hunt public water is gone, you will wish you had done more.

Meetings will be held at the Hyde County Government Center at 7:00 pm unless otherwise noted. Minutes will be posted after they have been reviewed and approved at the following meeting.

From the county website. From the look of it the only public comment they will accept will be online.

Sorry it took me so long to get back on this. I'll be honest, I forgot.

So far it is looking like the committee is going to recommend a 200 safety buffer between HUNTERS, not fake or unoccupied blinds(we fully support this). They are going to recommend a $200 dollar boat blind license and outlaw stick blinds on public water. Since it is so far proposed that they issue a unlimited number of licenses, again there is no real objection to this.

However, the two County Commissioners, Simmons and Pugh are not going to be happy. They want a Safe Hunter Law to tie up the water for their exclusive use. Two of the committee members were not present, they are the two biggest proponents of restricting public access. It is not over, the next meeting will be critical. Only 3 people showed up last time to monitor the meeting. We need a bigger show of force in the future.
