Thanks for having the "cajones" to post this.

All of us can always use another reminder about safety with a firearm.

Glad you are going to be OK! Been down that road of getting shot in the butt myself. But a good reminder to all that safety is critical at all times.
Your story underscores one of my rules when field hunting when out of the blind gun is unloaded period. Never know when Fido decides to jump into a blind regardless of how well trained a dog is!

Wow! Glad your gonna be okay. Was in the BR area earlier this month and saw how that ice can complicate things. Over the years, I've been shot twice; but it was bird shot at fairly long range while upland hunting. Didn't feel good, but thankfully my damage was minor both times. You'll be giving the metal detectors something to think about now.

Here's decoy that really saved my bacon. At six feet away, there is not much,if any, pattern spread. The wad was stripped and pellets scattered by this decoy. The wad was actually inside the decoy. My son won a pair from an Eberhart giveaway a couple years back here on the 'fuge. I gotta do some research and see if they are still available so I can replace it.:doh

Sorry your are paying the price for a moment of lapse in safety. But thanks for the reminder to unload your gun whenever you are not in control of it.

Thanks for sharing your incident. I'm glad you are OK.
It's always useful to read accidents like yours to my kids (and to myself) to drive home not just gun safety but gun awareness and use them to learn how to recognize a potential preventable accident before it happens.

Some dogs are devious.

Glad you're ok.

First off glad your OK.
My only comment is if you been running around with loaded guns laying in your boat for 35 years it's a wonder you haven't had an accident sooner.
Sorry don't mean to be cruel, but that's as bad as the guys who climb up a treestand with a loaded gun...and they are out there.

Now you get to retell your story every time you try to board a plane.

No, when traveling my gun is empty and cased. When chasing a cripple, I do just break it at the breach and set it in.. Well I used too. It will be empty as well as broken from now on.
