Quickest way to ruin a good duck spot is to build a blind on it! …
Not necessarily. In 50+ years of waterfowl hunting on public waters/lands I’ve only had one significantly irritating encounter … and … make-shift day blinds didn’t cause that one. It was back during the 1969-70 season and even that encounter didn’t mess up my day. Two yay-hoo‘s set up less than 100 yds from my dad and me. Totally unnecessary since we had at least 200 acres of prime shallow water to ourselves. The willow blind they built was adequate but they couldn’t sit still, hence ALL the birds were working our 12 decoys instead of their 24+ decoys. My dad and I had a good shoot other than their occasional sky busting which was totally out of spite. I‘ve hunted that spot many times since then … in fact … I still do today and have never had another encounter like that. But to reiterate, I normally walk-in a “long ways” which seems to always weed out the jerks. Same applies when I use my boat. I’ll run many miles from the nearest landing and have never had a problem with other boats bumping my spots. Color me public land lucky.

1,000% agree. In my area if you leave a blind up it is 100% guaranteed the spot will be burnt the next time you try to hunt it and there will be boxes of empties and litter everywhere. I take down my blinds and leave no trace, even to the point of cleaning up the feathers if any of the birds get hit hard.

No, my brother, you don't get it.

You don't get it because you don't hunt where we hunt.....the same as I follow your posts because you don't hunt like I do, and it's interesting to me.

If you hunt public where I hunt, don't leave a blind. There are enough people that already know where you are.

I've never killed a duck on public ground...or private, for that matter, so don't pizz me off. :l :l

The only time I have hunted public was about 15 years ago. One of my customers was drawn at Ted Shanks. That was absolutely the largest circle jerk I have ever seen, guys pushing others around causing fights, enough for this old guy.

I've never hunted any landscape that remotely resembles that.....but it looks quiet and peaceful. :tu

If I think about it the crappy run ins I've had are when the spots were easy. I agree with you here, the few guys you run into where you had to work for it are good.

Try grand pass, it's a bigger circle jerk. That's where stories of idiots are made. And those guys still kill ducks because it's that good.

I was young there once.....and some guys stood on a levee and cursed at us like a step-uncle. We did some yelling back at the 4 of them, and then they did the "fork you lazy puzzy motherforkers" for a bit....all bowed up. :l

They headed out down the levee and I sat there and stewed, and stewed. Finally I was out of the boat and down the levee. I got to the parking lot about the time they were done undressing. I announced myself as, "who's the lazy motherforker now". There was complete silence.....then a "hey man, we don't want any trouble". Then it was my turn to hand out a cussing. Those 4 guys loaded up faster than anybody I'd ever seen. When they got to the road, they stopped their rig and started up the cursing again....with me laughing at them.

It turned out I knew the brother of one of them and he posted up their encounter with "the guy who chased them down the levee and pointed a shotgun at them and threatened them" on a message board we all used then. :l :l

Everybody had a different tune when the story got told with a 'hey, that was me" post.

I was stupid then, and would fight anyone....and got my arse handed to me enough times. Today I don't think I'd walk 20 feet to have an argument/fight with someone in a duck marsh. I've seen a few....enough to remind me I'm not that stupid anymore. :l
