I was young there once.....and some guys stood on a levee and cursed at us like a step-uncle. We did some yelling back at the 4 of them, and then they did the "fork you lazy puzzy motherforkers" for a bit....all bowed up. :l

They headed out down the levee and I sat there and stewed, and stewed. Finally I was out of the boat and down the levee. I got to the parking lot about the time they were done undressing. I announced myself as, "who's the lazy motherforker now". There was complete silence.....then a "hey man, we don't want any trouble". Then it was my turn to hand out a cussing. Those 4 guys loaded up faster than anybody I'd ever seen. When they got to the road, they stopped their rig and started up the cursing again....with me laughing at them.

It turned out I knew the brother of one of them and he posted up their encounter with "the guy who chased them down the levee and pointed a shotgun at them and threatened them" on a message board we all used then. :l :l

Everybody had a different tune when the story got told with a 'hey, that was me" post.

I was stupid then, and would fight anyone....and got my arse handed to me enough times. Today I don't think I'd walk 20 feet to have an argument/fight with someone in a duck marsh. I've seen a few....enough to remind me I'm not that stupid anymore. :l

I would like to say that public land hunting is full of young idiots who do stupid chit.....and then I remember that there hasn't been much evolution of duck hunters since I was a kid too. :l :l

Public hunting is public hunting. I love it.

Proving yourself right. I'm a pretty low resting heart rate type but stuff with duck hunting sets me off. I was hunting a state area in Illinois where all the blinds are set and guys were shooting at every group of birds within a 100 yd. I hollered them up and down for a while. The check station guy asked what the deal was and i told him. Can't stand stuff like that, I'd rather see someone get the birds than a group of idiots ruin everyone's hunt.

Years ago here in Indiana at a certain State F&WA, you would get a draw (sometime in Aug. or Sept.) & would be allowed to build a blind at that location, BUT you had to claim it just before the by the Daily draw time or then anybody to go there. I’ve hunted out of some very nice blinds at that property, but again that was 50 years ago.

Whup….ain’t nothing like a Mexican stand off in an Arkansas Timber hole at O Dark Thirty to make you appreciate hunting private ground :yes:l:l:l

I have hunted Arkansas 4 times and it was like your first piece of tail. All 4 hunts were on private ground complete with a a beautiful lodge and resident chef, something ever duck hunter should experience. The holes had most of the trees topped and the LZ was adequate. First the Woodies came squealing through and then the big ducks came. Most of the time it only took 30 minutes to limit out. We usually stayed until brunch and just watched them. All of the sites were owned by fertilizer or chemical companies.

I have hunted a lot of public thru the years in a number of different states. I still believe no permanent blinds or stands should be allowed on public sites. They should be removed at the end of each hunt.

Yep all the bad run ins I’ve had are in states where permanent blinds are legal. Guys think they own a spot because they built a POS blind on the spot even though the laws say first come first serve. And 90% are left up after the season even though they are supposed to be taken down.

In my state we hunt natural vegetation and will add natural cover to the area to make a better hide. You wouldn’t know they are there unless you pull in to the spot. If you go in and intentionally tear up the cover to screw over the next guy you are a dbag. I’ve seen guys with big boat blinds do that stuff to screw over all the guys without boat blinds. In every case there boat blind sticks out like a swollen ****.

These days I avoid those areas until late season when rifle season opens. Things get pretty quiet once all the ding dongs are up in a tree waiting on a ditch donkey.
