I thought ammunition prices were coming down?

Not sure its just Rogers. Our local Academy's is just as bad. I paid the below prices in 2018 for teal ammo.

A quick search shows its $11.99 a box for WE12GT6 and $11.99 for WE12GTH6 (out of stock). So almost double what I paid in 2018.

Rogers is making huge margins as many shops selling ammo. 50-70% in some cases is consumer gouging.

Interesting, I understand prices to dealers were way up. If you’re right and retailers drastically increased prices, this’ll be over quick since other retailers will seize the opportunity.

Those three combining is definitely a negative. I just took a quick look at what was on my shotshell shelves. In addition to the brands you mentioned, I have ammo from Fiocchi, Eley, Rio, Clever, Challenger and Estate, and all of them make steel shot ammo. There are actually plenty of players ready to exploit an opening when things stabilize.

Question is, when will things stabilize?

Inflation is likely here to stay (stagflation, it lasted 4+ years during the Carter administration) for several years as with ~$3-4 Trillion (Covid Relief & Infrastructure Bills) still escrowed by recipients but starting to be put into the economy, the exacerbation of too much money chasing too few goods/services is going to continue unabated. If you didn't prepare for such a time (pre-2019) then prepare to purchase ammo by the cartridge until if and when things begin to satbilize.

I purchased some 4 packs of Federal Blue Box yesterday @$63.00, last year those 4 packs were $45.00. I texted my son about the availability and he stopped by today. As he was making his purchase, literally as he was paying, they changed the price to $67.00.

I saw them two weeks ago for $60, next time I went in it was $63, and now it's $67. Walmart doesn't usually change prices so quickly. I was told they had good prices last year b/c they had contract pricing set before the shortage and cost explosion. They're still not bad on price, but after tax these shells are now ~$18/box, which isn't far off what you can find online. The Xperts at ~$15/box aren't looking too bad right now.

Yep, ammo got caught up in some odd circumstances before all the rest of the economy realized what was coming, and now it's just another product that costs a lot more to make and ship than it did just a short time ago. Any chance of competition forcing prices down is pretty well mitigated right now by demand, high costs and serious instability. Plus side is we are seeing a lot more ammo on local shelves and online. As supply increases, opportunity for competition to push prices down also increases.

About 2004 or 5 I bought several cases of Kent and Estate steel in 3 inch #2 and #3s. At the time I was hunting ducks 3 days a week and quail 3 days a week. In 2006 I moved to the Vegas area and quit hunting. I had all my ammo stored in a closet all these years. Now I can no longer walk and only hunted dove and duck. Dove one or two days a year and duck whenever I got an invite to a club where I could get to the blinds. I think I paid less then $90.00 a case? It took a long time to locate the dove loads but I finally found a store with cases of #7 steel on hand. I bought a case at that time, about a year or two ago. I knew that the availability of ammo would get back to somewhat normal but knew the prices would never go back down. Prices go up, not down! I was a AA trap and skeet shooter but had to give that up too. The price to reload went out of this world and you can't locate the components these days. All the shot I had left over is now being used to make fishing weights. That's a shame. I can no longer afford to shoot at clay targets! Don't get me started on Bismuth, I was on the testing team they used before it was OKed for use. That was a bunch of BS!!! Good luck to locating ammo guys and if you find a deal stock up!!

Local outdoors store has Fed. Blue Box for 80-something a case. Likely got stickered wrong. 3" 2's & BB's. The price is tempting, but I know I'd never shoot them.
