I am thinking about buying an ice eater to keep my hole open this year. Anybody have any suggestions before I spend $800 on it? Thanks!

Cheapest I found. Have been running them for a while now. Does not come with a base, but all i did was take a piece of 1/2 round stock, a piece of 3/4 tubing, and weld a sliver of 10" pipe, (so the ice eater sits in it facing up) onto the 3/4 pipe on a 20 degree or so angle, (i think), and welded a nut to it with a bolt to hold it in place. Got the idea from a buddy. That way you can slide it up or down on the rod to adjust height. Works good for me.

best i`ve seen is the MaLLARD one from Power House. 1 hp make a big differance over 1/2 or 3/4 hp.It also come with a cage where you can change the angle.Important when blowing a hole in the ice.
