So I've been asked to teach a grilling class at the church and I'm looking for ideas/suggestions. I've never done anything like this before and not sure how I want to go about it (it's completely up to me on what we do). Will likely bring the Webers up there (got a 22 and 26 with slow n sear for both and a vortex).

Anyone ever done such a thing and have and ideas or suggestions? It will likely be a mix of complete nubes to folks better than me so need to appeal to a wide range of skill levels. I would guess it'll be less than 20 people.

If you were to attend such a thing what would interest you in learning?

A good slow smoke has the excitement of watching paint dry, just smells better.

Chops, chicken, kabobs, or steak will keep them full and interested.
Depends on the temperance of your fellow church goers. But grilling without a beverage is on the edge sacrilege offenses.

i would recommend providing some insight to folks about looking on the internet for suggested internal cooking temps for various type of meat. I found this extremely helpful to me when I started smoking more meats and also have provided this knowledge on to my family and friends. most folks are clueless to what the internal temp should be for various types of meat. Grilling is a bit different than smoking but the internal temp allies to just about any type of cooking.

for grilling, maybe talk about searing versus just continuous steady cook temp. also some things may drip and cause flames and you need to monitor certain things more than others. sounds like fun.

If you have access to one I'd add a  gas  grill to the mix--I know, right up there with the sin of grilling without an open beer. Reason being many folks don't use charcoal for one reason or another and if all you have is Webers you're going to lose them. Also it would let you do a little compare and contrast with the different results.

If you're teaching steak, the levels of doneness are: rare, medium rare, and overcooked.

It's difficult to make grilling anything but fun, so just have fun with it.

From some of the stuff I’ve seen that you cooked I don’t think you will have a problem, just make it fun and touch on the spices and prep of meat for good grilling technique. :tu
Ha! I'm not too concerned about my abilities, I feel like I can hold my own on the grill. Just never done a class or taught something like this!

I throw steaks on my pellet grill for some smoke flavor then put them on a conventional flame grill to cook.
