The tax proposal is insane, and likely would not survive any legal challenge, but you might also note it only affects people worth more than $30 million. Not saying I agree with the tax, I do not, But it looks to be just another example of liberals wanting to "stick it to the rich guy".

They may as well impose a wealth tax on businesses that will be leaving CA.

The states where the former (California) residents relocate to could reciprocate by imposing a “refugee tax” on California for the people they received.

Not sure, Capital gains?... I know in Income tax, I moved out in April and it was over $5,000 ( or close to it, don't remember)...the rest of the year 0.

I love the country of that State- most of the people are cool, the beaches are almost as beautiful as the women, the fishing is phenomenal and the hunting is multi species and excellent- the Politics suck.

Doesn’t NJ have an exit tax?

I haven’t looked into it , but my sister was thinking about moving abroad and said the US exit tax was too high to justify it. I have no idea if that’s true or not.

State capital gains taxes paid while still living in CA? But if you leave CA in 2020 - do you have to pay CA capital gains on realized profits that you make in 2025? Even though you haven’t lived there for 5 years? It says it will last for 10 years is that after you leave the State?

Ya know, ya have to live it to know it's true.
The population centers and central coast are a carbuncle on the azz of the rest of the state.
CA has 58 counties. Twelve of the counties between LA and SF comprise a liberal cesspool (the so called central coast). The remaining 46 counties are unfortunately dominated politically. Sorta like what happens in most states where people are tyrannized by population center crap hole fools.
