I think the combines in Lovelock are just a tad bit older then Fallon's lol
And the percentage of callers that can run either effectively is small enough that it makes no difference what guys are using.
DR85 does fine in the hands of someone with good timing and cadence. It’s limited though. If someone with good timing and cadence is also a skilled operator there are calls that offer more.
Bad calling on a DR85 doesn’t carry the same as bad calling on many J frame calls. Good calling on a DR85 doesn’t carry the same either.
I used a Yentzen for the first ten years I hunted, and an Iverson after that for another five. I was a pretty decent duck caller...as an operator I was extremely limited. After a stint as a mediocre contest caller my operation improved. I’m still a pretty decent duck caller with a few more years of experience and a few more tools at my disposal I learned by becoming a better operator.
I don’t think my calling will ever stop evolving. I’m not getting any better as an operator. That ship sailed when I stopped trying to compete. I’m always trying different stuff though. Always picking up different things from hunting with different people in different areas. Seeing what works and what doesn’t. Keeping up with what’s new. Remembering what it was built on.
Calling ducks is my favorite aspect of hunting...I’ll always be a student because every situation is different, and what fools one might not fool the next.
Price of the call has nothing to do with it.
Yep, depending on how I feel that day.
I’m running 2 popsicle sticks and a rubber band this year. Super secret design.
you said to keep that under wraps dang it now its out.
A good Duck Caller even with a Cheap DR85 or a Expensive call is stabbing at the sky , IF , he doesn't know how to read the birds he's calling to ,
as you say , knowing how to operate a call is second , to the art of calling ! Breaking a single or a pair out of a flock 150 yds up and grinding the whole
flock all the way with their feet dowm , is what we call......Calling . Even a lonesome Drake can't refuse the sweet talking of a soft Hen call . It's what
Duck hunting is ALL about , the shooting only takes a few seconds ......Hope it's a good season for everyone !
