I have a Mondo and actually like it. But wondering if someone makes a J frame that sounds similar to the deep tone and raspiness of a cutdown out of the box?

Or 1.390 HD reed in a Lares Mag Hen IMO is pretty close.

Dont think I've ever tried one. I'd also say a heavy tuned Black River Tyrant will get some similar sounds but still be a bit more operator friendly.

A old style Daisy Cutter, or the remakes of them could have that potential, if you tune them stiff, and cut heavy dog ears. The OSDC I had would definitely do it, if tuned that way. I would tune it a little stiff, and never would blow it out. I have a 40th anniversary DC I'm pretty sure could, come close. Not identical to a cut down, but not as hard to blow either.

The RM OTP, or most any Lares with a 1.380 or longer reed can get similar, but not "exact."

Three good options: OTP, Tyrant, and Lares with a 1.380. One other call from my personal stash is the RNT leopardwood DC from ‘15.

The key on any of them is a long reed. Forget about those high j-frame notes. You want all deep and raspy. Most j-frames can’t take that cutdown air presentation. They squeak out.

IMO, if I am hunting flooded timber (and not blowing a cutdown), the OTP is hard to beat. Good luck finding one.
