Someday, I'm going to Kansas to see what all the damn fuss is about. I guess all these years I've been missing out

Ducks as far as you can see, and the only locals to compete with are driving around writing down license plates. It's like going to Canada, except in Canada the locals will clean your birds. :yes

Duck hunting in Kansas is just ok, and that's all it's ever been. There's just not a lot of water in the state, and the hunting pressure is very concentrated on a handful of public areas. The deer hunting is still good, but so are lots of places for whitetail. Bird hunting used to be pretty exceptional, but is in a death spiral, and turkey populations are not far behind.

It's over.

The big appeal Kansas has for OOS waterfowlers is this: no restrictions.
Every day is open; all day.
Every public area is open, everywhere, all day, to everyone who wants to buy a license.
Hunt where you want, when you want....just like a resident.
The problem now is this: you have to share your spot(s) with four other hunting parties. Including the locals who drive around counting plates after picking up their spread.

Sounds like this is definitely a trip I need to make! Maybe this year!

True enough.....and it's something your KPWD does better than any other state. You guys don't know it, but all you're doing is calling a govt regulation airstrike on yourselves. You should cherish what you have. Ask me how I know.

X two on what Griff just said. You Kansans are very fortunate to live in a game-rich state. No regulation can assure you of the public hunting to which you believe you’re entitled. Like the old saying goes … watch what you wish for.

Save your efforts for finding and buying ground, regardless of the financial sacrifice. You’ll be glad you did.
