We went to a private land spot we get to hunt a couple times a year that has been a go to on the junior hunt.

We started late...we dont have a key to the gate so we are at the mercy of when the ranch workers open the gate. Today it was 6:42 so....

    Didn't matter much.

Got em... 7 Greenheads and a honker. His first all Greenhead limit. He turned 15 on Wednesday.

It was a good day... we will try again tomorrow.

Struggled today...he was trying to match yesterday and passed some birds early. Hen mallards and teal and a few bluebills etc.

He would rather decoy and work birds than jump shoot so early on when he could have went jump shooting (which is better on a lower tide where we were hunting) and probably killed his limit he held off.

The birds didn't seem to want back in, I think they fed all night with the big moon. So they found places to loaf and just didnt return.

Killed 3 mallards and a Cackler in the decoys then went jump shooting and lied 3 more mallards. Passed on more miscellaneous ducks. He was being a bird snob...

Looks like a really nice set up. Is the location in Southern CA? I have been a northern grasslands hunter for several (25+) years and just moved down to Orange County last year. 5 1/2 hour drive to the club from here makes me think of looking for a club closer to the new home. any ideas?

Sorry Mike, we are in northern CA. So I cant help you with any ideas.

Start a thread. Seems to be a pretty helpful bunch here. Good luck, hope you find something close to home.
