Her 5th trip... She said, "I don't know if I will go again, after I get one, but I am going to get one this season Dad... I have too much time invested. The morning in question, no birds on the roost near us... Hens were quiet... Then all hell broke loose after a bit of subtle calling. Had birds coming in from behind, birds coming in from the left, and a trio of toms headed right at us... All gobbling. The two behind us were close, but behind a barrier... Three coming right at us booked as the two from behind us showed themselves in good range.
Me: Kierra, shoot when you can.
Kierra: Now?
Me:YES...
As the birdst start to walk off

Kierra: which one?
Me THE CLOSEST ONE!
Kierra :"BAM! and done goes a bird!
Me; lays back and starts to breath, before getting my whitts and running to the down bird. They were at 20 when I initially encourage her to shoot, and she killed that bird at 35... I'll have take heart medication when I take the younger Saidee on her first trip.

Get to the blind, go to load the xbow and notice the holder is really tight. Fool with it and it is too loose. Finally twerked it and it's good.

Next, the blind seat is too low, go back to the truck, grab 3 hunting coats, works out great (on the way over he asked why I never clean my truck out)

He saw 3 does coming in right at 6, we had sat there with nothing but squirrels rampaging. He was trying to keep an eye on the does, I told him get the Xbow on the tripod, 3 times, when he did, they heard something and walked off. He was disappointed, but I told him about the witching hour, he asked what that wuz and I told him.

10 minutes later, he sees the buck, I already had him put the Xbow on the tripod and rest the foot stirrup on the blind. It took for eternity for me and him watching it walk in (may have been 5 minutes). It's head went behind a tree, closest leg was forward and I told him take the shot...WhACK...deer took off with its tail down, I instantly think a gut shot, wait 30 minutes, recock the xbow and check out where it was standing. Find the bolt, red blood, no bile smell to it, no stomach contents...and no blood trail at all. I'm crushed thinking a nonlethal hit, but he's amped, we start following the way he went. It turned down a holler heading towards a creek and a clear-cut, I tell him to sneak more, down we go and I see white belly... I'm like Bubby, there's your deer, one joyous 13 year old.

His first xbow deer and first buck.

Won't be long and these will be doing the shooting.
What a pleasure and great change of pace for me to be introducing them . All the questions and wonder of what's happening , cheering the dog on and helping with the work.
It's rejuvenated me , used to feel like work at times , not this year!
I'm going to have to spend some time going back through this thread, thanks to all for getting them out .
Sorry it likes like double posted a couple.
