KDWPT Seeks Input From Kansas Waterfowl Hunters

PRATT – The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) is seeking input from individuals who hunt waterfowl in Kansas through a series of public information meetings. KDWPT staff wish to reexamine current waterfowl regulations – including season dates and duck zone boundaries – utilizing the critical input waterfowl hunters have to share. Public information meetings will be held in Hays (Aug. 5), Great Bend (Aug. 6), Wichita (Aug. 7), Manhattan (Aug. 12), Pittsburg (Aug. 13), and Kansas City (Aug. 14). Each meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., and all are welcome to attend. See below for meeting locations.

Should proposed changes arise as a result of the public meetings, staff will make a formal presentation to the KDWPT Commission for final action, beginning in November. All proposed changes that are voted on and approved by the Commission will then go into effect for the 2021-2022 waterfowl seasons.

Just remember, Lauber will do everything he can to shrink the SE Zone down to the Neosho wildlife area. He has said it several times at the meetings.

Also, Late Zone has no business opening in October. Would like that changed a week later.

I’m tempted to attend one but fear that it will end up being one guy after another stepping up to a microphone to give his song and dance about why the seasons/zones need to be set a certain way to accommodate him or his group of buddies. I don’t recall if they had these meetings the last time zones could be changed but if nothing else they will be able to say we gave the public an opportunity to speak up. In the end I will be surprised if any significant changes are made.

Of course that is what is going to happen, just s live version of what goes on here or what happens at the KDWPT meetings when discussing seasons.

Well would you rather have a non duck hunter named Lauber tell you when to hunt and change your zone?

I am all for the reduction in the number of dark geese you can harvest. 6 is way to many. My thought would be 4 or so but 6 is just to many.
