Retirement...spending 3 months in Europe currently in Vienna, Austria. Waterfowl season October -December at hunting shack in NE Zone, then back to the Gulf Coast of Alabama (Redneck Riviera) for fishing. Purchased a California lifetime license before moving out of state. I am sure the license cost will continue to increase. :)

Any kid could make that much doing chores for the neighbors in 1-2 weekends! Seems like a lot of money but they blow that much on stupid gaming stuff and starbucks all the time.

I bought the hunting lifetime license + upland and big game packages 13 years ago.( I believe it has paid for itself) It still cost me $100+ for a second deer tag,a bear tag and chance for elk! I hate the politics here but the climate and opportunity's (Ocean fishing, trout and bass, duck, big game) are too great to pass up and leave!

To the guys leaving out of state... did you just abandon your parents and family or did they come with you? My wife and I just cant up and leave our jobs, parents, whole life...Its just not that simple.
That's my big issue. It would be incredibly difficult to leave my parents and inlaws here. Job is the other problem, from my research to work in my trade wouldn't pencil out even with cheaper cost of living other places. I would leave tomorrow if i can figure out solutions.

Dinner/drinks for 14 last night was $1,200.00
I'll gladly hand over $200 to shoot ducks, drop in the bucket really.

Everyone's situation is different. My Dad has passed, my mom lives next door to my sister 6hrs away, they're set. Her Dad will be retired & traveling. The kids are welcome to come with us if they choose but by that time will all be in thier late teens to early 20s and starting lives in various fields and places.

We'll sell her business and my side business can travel with us. I'll have my retirement and other incomes... no reason to stay.

All my family is scattered, born in the Great Republic of Texas and hope to go back. I have a deep family history there. Yes most of it is private land but in some counties if you have 10 acres and your shot string doesn’t leave your land you can hunt it. We only have one kid and she’s been dead set on A&M for a couple years… but she’s 11 and has time to change her mind. Ultimately where she goes we’ll go. All I want is to have a little peace away from the noise. I’ve been running my wheels off for a couple decades and am worn out physically and mentally. But for the next few years I’ll pay my 350$ happily to go chase forkies and beat up the spoonies.

Who knows what some of the hotspots of today will look like in 5 or 10 years and changes by the day.
