Had the toughest turkey hunting of my life this year. Hunted 12 days and saw gobblers 1 day, never saw a jake all year. Hunted deep in the woods and hunted field edges. Several day was out before 5 am and heard little or no gobbling. Hunted places were I got birds in the past and saw nothing. Will try again next year, but I am worried about not seeing jakes this year and not many last year.

Live in Lacrosse Wi. Hunt with in 50 miles. Some of the land I hunt I've have hunted 25 years. Did well on it. I have a few spots that I have sole access. Birds are gone and it wasn't over hunting.

Predators. And raccoons eating eggs. If you did well on it in the past yotes and foxes found easy pickings. See any/many of those?

Habitat in the area has likely worsened. Could also be more predators, but good habitat mitigates that. Intensive trapping in spring and early summer would help with predators, but habitat is #1.

One of the farms I hunt the land owner walks around every day. He knew of 3 turkey nest on his property. One day he saw a coon in one of the nest. Another day he had a coyote in a nest. Then he noticed the 3rd nest was destroyed, culprit unknown. That was last year.

I’m gambling a big part of the decline you are seeing is avian flu related.
