    Hey Gang,
My Winchester Model 70 .30-06 Featherweight (1956 build) has gradually been losing accuracy. 20 years ago I could shoot 2 inch groups, now six inch is about what it does.
I am considering sending it off to a shop for a fancy accurizing process, and was wondering if you had any suggestions or experiences.
Yes, scope and mount is tight. What could be other causes that I should look at? I am not much at gunsmithing.

    Thanks!
    David

Welp......25 years ago I was winning pistol matches all over the Midwest......now I'm 60, lost a bit of strength, need reading glasses, and can't find a pistol anywhere that shoots decent groups. If you find a place that can work on pistols too, let me know. :)

Give it a good bore cleaning with a copper solvent like Sweet's 7.62
Is an entailed process..scrub, soak and patches again and again until patches come out clean after scrub, soak. Nylon brushes because the stuff will eat brass brushes. Will eat a brass cleaning rod, also.
You may have to do it 20 or more times on a barrel that old.

Thanks. Did that already, hoping it would fix the problem. I suspect I have a lose screw (which is what my wife says all the time!).

Now I'm 74 and have the same problem! But I can still shoot the other rifles OK, and the Mod 70 is inaccurate no matter who is driving.

How many rounds have been through her?

Lands and grooves still look good?

    Same ammo being used?

Same lot numbers of commercially loaded cartridges or (hand loads) powder?

Ammo manufacturers can/have changed components over the years which will render different results.

    Clean? @Fogie has good advice.

We have owned the gun for over 50 years. It had little use when we got it. I doubt it has over 250 rounds through it since we purchased it.

    Yes.
Similar results more or less regardless of ammo.
    Yes, it is clean.
    Thanks!

Wood stock? I had a 70's vintage Model 700 BDL that shot MOA forever until a couple years ago. I put a Hogue stock on it after fooling with scope mount, bullets, bore cleaning...... it went back to shooting MOA.
