    As a former teacher and contractor whose students could receive HS senior math credit from my construction program.
    It was just a fact, many of my students hated ( claimed) math when they entered my construction program. I use to teach my students what a former boss told each of the new hires
    "The man that knows the math makes the money"
    Plus I hear a lot of people whining about the new math. , In reality; all new Math is ,,, well old math. with the exception maybe of electronic calculators.
    How do you calculate these problems in your head? Write them out,,,, you know, show your work

    19x5

    or 21 x 7

    15x9

    For those of you that this is easy, 2-5 seconds or less, for each problem, well its just old in your head math called new math

    I just got caught up on common core you draw boxes n chit.

    Old school:
    19x5=(10x5) + (9 x 5)= 50 + 45 = 95
    I'm a worthless pos.
    Want me to do fractions now?
    Calculus?

    You could (20 x 5) - (1x5)= 95 for style

    Common core is difficult for me, my kids finally picked it up.
    I have taught my kids how to do their math with a tape measure. If only everyone would carry one, math would be easier

    i had trouble with e. 6.02 x 10^23 was no problem. The people that won the Nobel prize for economics a few years ago for the Black-Scholes option pricing model derived the formula from a physics equation for heat transfer. I had to study that ad nauseum because they won it in the middle of a semester.
