didn't pay attention til I was picking. Feet super weird color. Bill, weird. Feathers on chest, weird.
I assumed molt drake. The colors seemed odd. I'm 95% sure it's an old hen mallard, so those comments not needed.

Mallard. I forget the reason for the bluish bill, but it's more common than most of us realize.

I killed a blue billed one last year, but the rest of bird was 100% mallard looking. This one has yellow feet, funny bill, and odd color chest. Just goofy is all.
Last years goof.

I have seen it noticed it on first of the year drakes that have not gotten all of their colors in yet, always assumed it was associated with young birds. I will start paying more attention now! Our opener always consists of drakes that are not very colorfull.

I think mallards occasionally get certain "pigment genes" turned off. It looks just like a mallard drake with the orange gene turned off. There's been a few posted on this forum with the green gene turned off and one or two that looked like a black-and-white photo. My guess is that it's 100% mallard.
