I have been getting ready to load hevishot. Can I use my old mec 600 Jr (pre-1985) for reloading? If not, which one of the mec's would be best?

It will work, but you will have to weight the shot, it looks like different sizes of small potatoes and slag. I would weigh the propellant also. Good Luck, Ned S who loads steel on two Mec Jrs.

As long as your resizing ring sizes your cases enough to function properly in your chamber, the old 600Jr. will do the job. Just follow Ned's advice on weighing the powder and shot.

Is the shot that bad? Is that the same shot that Remington uses?

The jar of 2's I have is pretty bad. Don't worry about it as it works. I don't shoot it as my fast, fast steel does everything I am capable of doing. Ned S the young 75 yr old slow loader of fast, fast steel.
