This thread has me looking at gently used Tundras with long beds, the work truck is getting aged. Don’t want that turbo 6, hence gently used.

The new Tacoma looks badged everywhere in juvenile fashion.
I think my ideal taco would be pre 2016 xtracab 4wd 2.7 4 cylinder stick.
The engine is simplest reliable cheap to own.
Problem with it is the stock 1st gear is way too tall imo.
No power at elevation but it’s a Toyota.
No power is expected. You buy for longevity.
I drove a bench seat one and the padding is good.
Midsize is midsize if you want it. Full size is more capable overall.

I had an 83 just like that except steel wheels.
Good truck.
I had an 86 xtracab sr5 too.
A few years ago I went to check out an 85 reg cab. Forgot how tiny those things really were inside.
Had my 89 4Runner stolen. Bad thing on those old trucks-very very easy to steal.
I have good memories from those rigs.
That said I’m over those vehicles now.
I need more comfort more power better suspension quieter better highway over pure utility/durability/simplicity.
A 1999 4Runner is like a Cadillac compared to those old rigs.
I still say for a 2016-2022 Tacoma I’d get the 2.7 4wd xtracab stick base truck.
Cheap easy to maintain.
I wouldn’t get one but if I had a gun to my head that’s what I’d get.
The new taco might be good.
Toyota knows hybrid and they get 465 foot pounds of torque and I think around 320 hp.
Payload up to 1700lb.
Have to wait and see how things in the midsize segment stack up.

Elevation has been my struggle in deciding what to pick up for my farm truck. We're at 7500' and that absolutely sucks the life from those trucks. I'm better off on a quad in some cases.

I’ve driven one at about 5000’ on road and it really needed to be wound up just to maintain momentum unloaded. (Five speed stick)
Supposedly the turbo engines do much better at altitude but I haven’t driven any of them.
It’s always fun to discuss trucks and it’s all about the intended use.
One thing that was nice on the now vintage stuff was the gearing. You had that low gearing you need.
