I'm in champaign and have a puppy. He's advancing very quickly and sometime between now and fall I'd like to borrow access to a pit for training. I'd fire a dummy launcher but that's probably about as extreme as it'd be.
Just wanting to acclimate a puppy to a pit just in case we end up in one down south.
If it has a dog box great. If not I'll bring a couple milk crates and a piece of plywood.

Really don't want to travel far but I'd go a ways to do it. Somebody has a pit nearby?

Make a blind from plywood in the city park.
If they say anything to you about it just tell them that your and the pup are homeless and your living in the box.:tu:rolleyes:

If you were in the Canton area I could probably hook you up with both a field pit and water pit

I figured canton might me the closest.
I've hunted that area before. I'd go there but not a lot or for long. Just a few times is plenty.
This dog learns fast and would pick it up in no time. He just needs to experience getting in and out, sitting, and maybe cast a little but mainly he just needs to hop in and out a bunch to get used to it. He got used to the boat in just three trips to the lake.
I may never hunt from a pit but anything is possible and I got burned once.
My first lab..we went to a pay place and he moaned and groaned because no dog box and he'd never been in a pit. Grassy Lake

Might consider taking a ride to Victoria...Snake Den. If you're just looking for a visit or two, you might be able to just sneak a training session or two under the guise of fishing. Doesn't everyone carry a dummy launcher when fishing strip pits?

There are pits at Sangchris that could be used.

Oh yeah I forgot all about that thanks.
It's been golly...30 years since I've went there.
Is sanchris still a good striper lake?

The pits were on west side kind of behind number 50 right? I never used one of the pits but I knew they were there.

Dang..so dumb. I can just use maps to see the current setup. :doh

Only problem you may run into is if they are full of water this time of year. Generator and a sump pump ?

    No.
You roll a two wheel dolly with fat balloon tires.
Has a battery, inverter, and sump pump with a hose. Keep a milk crate and bungee cords to stow it in. I've pumped out a few pits.
    One was called The Presidential.
    Jimmie Carter hunted from it.
