The ZF 8 speed has been a great trans. The ford and the Ram are both really nice. They both spank anything else out there in there category. I had a Ram. Traded it for an F150. Traded that for a Ram. It was a tough choice between the f150 and the new Ram. The 5.0 is better than the Hemi but the rest of the truck is better than the F150. I would say oh couldn’t go wrong with either of them.

A good friend works at the GM transmission plant. He has told me repeatedly that trans in the Silverado’s is built with a life expectancy of 80k miles. Most do way better but that is the number GM shot for.

    That’s outrageous. And shameful.

Guessing you got a lemon... mines been bulletproof so far and I plan on keeping it to 200K. I do think the key with those motors is oil changes at 5,000 or less, as there is dilution from the direct injection. I also don’t (regularly) romp on mine, the odd grin inducing Italian tune up aside, but I do use it as a truck hauling and towing stuff, including a slide in camper.

Check the payload sticker on your Dodge. If you’re running a 1500, your nice ride is probably from rear coil springs. So with a case of beer in the back you might just be overweight. Seen more Dodges sagging like wannabe rappers, if you know what I mean :flame

Meh. I carried a whole pallet of shingles in mine. Hell yeah she was sagging but she did it. If I was that worried about it I would get airbags. I’m not though. So I’ll enjoy that awesome ride.

I’m pretty sure all manufactures shoot for 100k on all critical components. You know- the amount of time the warranty is good for. :l

Is the “5 year, 100k mile” warranty everyone advertises not for the power train?
