I have 19 and one in the works. The boys and I are trying to collect a nice drake of every species in NA. Not likely in my lifetime but maybe my boys will complete it. Our best is oldest sons 14+ year old drake black with a $100 reward band. Both bands had to be sent to USGS to be chemically etched. The reward could not be collected without the numbers which were illegible. The reward band was originally green. I guess salt water and age will do that.

I got my last bird mounted in 1997. Like @Clayton said, they're expensive and dust magnets. My plan is to get a "magazine quality" photo of every species then have a coffee-table sized photo book bound with the birds in the order I took them...Page 1 might look something like this...

I have 30 or more... might post pictures later.... I enjoy looking at them every day and have never spent a dime on a theropist .... probably even money there.... the rules on selling old mounts for used prices have relaxed.... or ship em to me i will house your old mounts,,,, got a banded mallard drake I had done for my dad on a great day we had in the 90's ... Dad is gone now and that was money well spent.... no one makes hunters mount animals but we will laugh at you when your wife makes you keep them all in the garage... ha ha just kidding only some of us get away with all over the house,,, Jim in Texas

Oddly enough my girl (big animal lover) thought the idea was cool and would make a neat decor around the house. I had one jar on me from the move and put one in her crib. Partially hoping it can serve as a daily reminder that I won’t be around much during Nov- Jan and she can just let me go without putting up to much of a fight.

Nice!

I put some mallard curls in a leg band to hold them when I was getting into them last January. I put a lot of them in shotgun shells along with pintail and oldsquaw pins too and sit them around.

I've got about a dozen shotgun shells with tail curls around the house and garage.
