Off topic: cutting wood to make outdoor furniture

    I have and use an alaskan chainsaw mill. I have 1000's of bf of cedar, walnut and hickory. You still need (to make) a straight edge for the first cut..
    Like someone else. For a just fine and usable bench seat, just screw a 2x4 to the log for a guide and have at it with a sharp chainsaw.

    I ratchet strap down an extension ladder to reference that first cut.

    ^^^yep that works too. Had a nice light alum ladder. Worked good except it was sometimes too flexible.
    I made up two 10' straight edges of plywood and 2 x 2. Then I screw another short 2 x2 onto the ends. Screw the straight edge to that.

    if it is green wood……..and you are reasonably in good shape physically

    Go to the local library and see if they any Roy Underhill books or tapes of The Woodwright’s Shop (PBS) or Alex Bealers book Old Ways of Working Wood

    I would like to give advise on this but in Junior High wood shop I cut my tongue on a handsaw. Consequently I disqualify myself.
