Thanks. I prefer simple black duck gunners. The feathering on the head drives me nuts, I wish I was better at it. But they were made to hunt and they will kill just fine.

That they will, thousands have been killed over bids that look just like yours. I commend you for carving your own birds........it can be addicting.

That would have to be one of the most difficult paint jobs I've ever done. Caleb and I have been doing some decoy building and flocking lately, I took this photo of the flocking progression for a mallard drake.

WHUP, do you know how many feathers are on a Bufflehead? Too many.

I don’t do that kind of carving, but if I did I would hate buffleheads for the rest of my life. I admire people who do that kind of work, it’s just not within my capabilities or temperament. Is that going to be a contest bird ?

There is a guy in our carving club that has been burning feathers on a hooded merganser and a ruddy duck for the last 8-years. Just trying to get them “perfect”

I would love to be there someday, I just dont have the eye for that level of detail at this point in my carving career.

I make birds that I hope get hunted over. Very rare is it that a finished bird finds a new home without either a keel on it, or evidence that one was once there having seen at least one sunrise in my rig.
