I used copper before it was required. No lost animals to date.

Having shot deer with lead in the old days, I remember picking lead bits out of the meat.

Those were found in the rear 1/4 of a cow elk. It's a 143grn ELDX from a 6.5 manbun shot quartering to at 180 yards. It passed from the brisket all the way to the rear ham.

Not a big fan for hunting yotes. Too many shots go clean thru and require follow up shots.

Anyone here reload 270 win with a nontox bullet for Ca if so what recipe are you running. I just picked up an older early 90’s Remington 700 bdl 270 and want to set it up for Ca deer and pigs. Also has anyone built a light weight mountain gun, at some point I might put a carbon fiber wrapped barrel and a light weight stock on it. I’m not looking for the $$ options but rather the good solid hunting options.
Just google it, plenty of data out there free on the web.

Also I would forget the idea of going light weight with the 270. Just like 308, 270 is a nightmare from a light weight gun.

I gave Ray "Spec" a box of 130 grain TSX for his 7Mag. He dropped a nice Elk at 200 plus yards with one shot. He is a believer.

The Barnes LRX can offer better expansion at longer distances. The bullets are easier to buy that loaded ammo. As has been suggested there are companies offering custom loadings with your bullet preference.

For folks worried about not enough expansion and too much penetration, they might consider the high shoulder shot. Yes, there would be a small amount of meat loss, but pretty hard for a big game animal to run off with both front shoulders broken.
