I have seen many deer and pigs killed with Barnes copper bullets and Nosler E-Tip copper bullets. None of them had a big exit hole, but they all had a bunch of internal damage.

The small exit hole makes it look like the bullet just pencils through and doesn't do much damage. But when I pulled the skin off of these animals I could see the damage done to the meat and bone between the small entrance and exit holes.

In 1983 I shot a Mule Deer buck in Wyoming with a Nosler Partition 160 gr lead core bullet out of my Rem 7mm Mag. I thought with a controlled expanding bullet like the Nosler Partition bullets there would be less meat damage done. This buck had a small entrance and exit hole but when we pulled the skin off it was unreal how much meat and bone damage the Nosler Partition bullet made.

I have killed 6 bucks with Barnes 120 GR TTSX bullets out of my Rem 260 over the years and none of those bucks ran more than 30 yards.

2 years ago a buddy's girlfriend at the time drew Northeast Bull. She was shootin Barnes through a 260 Remington. Put 2 in a bull at 200, supposedly in the boiler room area. Pizz poor blood trail, bull ran and ran and ran. Never did recover it.

Anyone here reload 270 win with a nontox bullet for Ca if so what recipe are you running. I just picked up an older early 90’s Remington 700 bdl 270 and want to set it up for Ca deer and pigs. Also has anyone built a light weight mountain gun, at some point I might put a carbon fiber wrapped barrel and a light weight stock on it. I’m not looking for the $$ options but rather the good solid hunting options.
I load for .270 Win up here in Alaska...mostly for sheep, caribou, black bear
130 grain Barnes TTSX or 129 grain Barnes LRX
I use IMR4350 or RL 19.
Seating about 0.050" off the lands is best for my rifles (Remington 700, Tikka)

While loaded Barnes 270, 130 grain LRX re hard to find, for you reloaders here is a source for these great bullets.
This will allow you to fire from your cases, neck size only, select powders, and determine most accurate bullet set back from rifling lands that also fits your magazine length.

She probably hit farther back and high leading to no lung damage and poor blood trail. Just a guess.

I bought a lifetime supply of Barnes TTSX and LRX from Midway just before the pandemic.
The TTSX cost $30 per box of 50 back then....
