Cut the cast out and replace with PVC. Be sure to give it fall. 1/4" per foot preferably. Check the traps under the sinks after. Any liquid plumber/ draino products are bad!

Cabling a drain at that age will only give you temporary relief. Metallic pipe deteriorates over time. It's like an artery. Good luck

Yep. Says so right of the bottles.

What I ended up doing was putting some of the stuff that comes in a double green bottle and let one bottle full sit overnight. It worked - temporarily I'm sure. The townhouse is 50 years old; Lord knows what the previous owners did. Thank goodness I didn't need to use the acid-based one......

My next step is to get my over-sized carcass under the house to follow the cast line to figure out the kind of shape it's in. I 'think' I saw cast pipe actually going into the ground where it goes to the county sewage system. This could be interesting........

Thanks for all the input.....

Just replace as much as you can. They will definitely benefit. We just cut out 20 feet of cracked 4 inch cast that went from basement to 2nd floor. Had to repipe the bathroom while we were at it. Took about 6 hrs. Hardest part is getting the old out of the wall. House was about 100 years old.

I was about to say the same thing. Did just that with 8 feet of cast iron last month. Exactly that. 2nd floor to crawlspace.

You must be a plumber or manage a ton of rental properties. This was my 2nd cast iron sewer headache in the last 10 years.

It would take my amateur self way longer than any 6 hours. That's when I'd tell them to call a plumber....
