    Guys,
My buddies son is stationed in Washington.
He is active duty Air Force from Illinois who is still claiming Illinois residency.

    He is 19 years old.

From what he is apparently telling his dad, who is asking me to ask you this, is that you have to be 21 to hunt on your own or have a firearm in your possession if you're from out of state, active duty or not.

Any truth to this, suggestions, words of wisdom, links to read the regs etc ?

    Thank you. Jim

If he is at JBLM have him try to get in contact with the a group called The Fallen Outdoors they will help him get out and hunt in the area

Definitely get him in touch with The Fallen Outdoors. It’s a group for both active and those that have served.

Welcome him to the top 3 worst States in the country for gun control.
While he is fully trained and capable of utilizing a weapon to defend this great country of ours he can not purchase a pistol or semi-auto rifle in the state (shotguns are exempt as of now).

Link to regulations https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.41 He is talking about 9.41.240 (18-21 year requirements) but is only for pistol and semiautomatic rifles "Assault Rifles" per new WA regs.

Actively Hunting is listed as one of the allowances for having a weapon. However note the additional rules for transportation which can get you.
So bottom line as long as it is a shotgun or standard hunting rifle good to go just follow rules on transport and then when there having a active hunting license and hunting G2G.

For licenses he can also get a Resident WA state licence with the below.
    Residency requirements
Per WAC 220-220-050, to qualify as a Washington resident you must meet certain criteria:
    • Military ID with a copy of orders showing Washington as your duty station

To add to this, if he looks up the MWR hunting/fishing/outdoors center for his base they can get him squared away license wise and usually in touch with people who can get him hunting.

If he's on JBLM the center is on North Fort.

Hope he gets this figured out. A lot has changed in 26 since I was in.

It's so sad that he has to jump thru so many hoops just to figure out how to hunt in this state.
