Decoys have been entered.

I am in 5 categories. Drake Woodduck, Drake Ringneck, Drake Canvasback “Mason Seneca Lake Style or Copy”, any teal (bluewing) and Hen Ringneck.

My daughter is entered in the youth decoy class with a Bluewing teal. It’s her first competition with prize money on the line.

It’s the first time they have had competition since Covid shut things down in 2020 and 2021.

I will try to get photos of the contest tables on Sunday after they are judged.

This is “The Gathering 2022”. Part of the National Fish Decoy Association (NFDA) events. I believe it’s their National show.

These were all contests that were scheduled for 2020. So all of these birds were carved two years ago. Strange to see the shelf empty. With any luck there will be empty space on Sunday when I get home.

It’s been a long time since I carved for competition, and I am not sure how much longer I will continue or if I will in the future. Still fun to participate and see what others are doing.

My favorite is the hen ringer. When I repaint my Herters, I incorporate more grey and use a fan brush. I love painting hen ringers!

No prize money for me, but it was a good show regardless. My daughter won her class and got a fairly good size check. We placed in the top 5 with everything that was entered, which has not been the case in the past.
