Plant id needed

I have a weed starting to grow with my rice. Any idea what this might be? Too early to tell? Thanks.

Picture makes it pretty tough to tell. A closer-up and more angles would help for positive ID.

Off the cuff, looks kind of like Pigweed or Marestail.

If pigweed, it is not well-known for its value to waterfowl, however there are some cases where pigweed seeds have been found in ducks' digestive tracts.

If Marestail, there is slight, if any, beneficial value to waterfowl. Certainly not in those small densities compared to rice.

Don’t know what it is but I know it’s not one of the desirable moist soil plants that we want to see in our ponds. It’s a real hairy plant that I’m not even sure it even falls in the ms category.

I know you want to ID it, I’m curious too but I’d be spraying it with 2-4D unless you have some smartweed or other broadleaves you don’t want to kill.

If you’re taking those photos with a phone - there are weed identifying apps that you can download. They’ll ID it off of a photo.

The iPhone apps are generally decent at getting in the ballpark, but are definitely not accurate. That being said, the app says Mexican Primrose. So probably Water Primrose…
