I’ve drawn a 3rd season rifle tag for mule deer and will be hunting my brothers place and also neighbors. I’ll be driving out (have some taxidermy to deliver to him from our trips to Scotland) and realized I will be coming and going through the prairie chicken units.
Seeing as they are on my bucket list, and by that time of year they should be plumed up well, does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? Public ground, walk in areas, local ranchers that have an affordable day fee (or free). Not looking for honey holes, I’m willing to walk and do the hard work.
On top of that, is this even a good year for them? Do they boom and bust like sharp tails?
