Not exactly new and unsettled science. It was proven long before I got involved by experts who study it for a living. No doubt cutting off the river is the predominant issue, and that can’t be overstated. Also no doubt the newest ground disappears the fastest. There’s also no doubt canals dug in locations where they allow far more saltwater intrusion to kill vegetation and/or eroding tidal currents where they wouldn’t otherwise be have exacerbated the problem in many areas. And it passes both the scientific test and reasonable man test.

Really nothing here to argue about.
Saying the science is unsettled is saying you don't understand science. Sounds like someone has too much time and money on their hands so they can glory hound around.

So you're saying that if I go out into a pristine marsh with an excavator and do what's shown below, which is introducing water with depth and current to an otherwise closed, solid marsh that this will have no adverse affect?

Yup.

So take a look at this one and tell me why the canals haven't caused the marsh to wash away?

The answer is because your pic is coming from the second to newest deltaic lobe, the birdsfoot, while mine is coming from the oldest (Cypremort/Sale deltaic lobe). You're seeing canals and saying, "look, those canals caused all that land loss." I'm saying, outside of the obvious canal cuts, that land was going to be lost anyway without replenishment from sedimentation.

Not sure what you are trying to imply, but, since I’m not a scientist, I won’t worry about it. I just know a bunch of people with letters after their name.

I’m at the Bassmaster Classic and hoping this is Hackney’s year.

What you show is a marsh further inland with fresh to brackish water with minimal tidal influence. Wouldn't the marsh much closer to the Gulf such as in the pictures I posted be more affected by these canals? It would only make sense that the further inland you go the older the "lobe" or ridge will be, but my concern is the mutilation of the marsh directly on the coast no matter it's age. We're talking about wet and waterlogged organic mush.

Believing everything you hear without fully understanding it and speaking to it like it's gospel makes one look snooty. I think that is what was being implied but I could be wrong :l

This is the La. Forum Bill...People here know a thing or two about La. and they not reliant on someone else to tell them what they already know. For every study or opinion there is one that comes to a different conclusion. Just sayin...

There are a lot of people from all over the place that don’t know a damn thing about where they’re from. Wether that’s ecology, history, etc.
And I’ve met more than a few avid outdoorsman and sportsman in La that only have a faint clue that what’s happening is actually happening, let alone actually knowing anything about it.

This is what I know, we’re fighting one of the most lop sided battles in history, in the most corrupt state in the country. Until we open up every dam and levee south of Natchez, ain’t a whole lot gonna change; so I appreciate the work Bill and people like him do.

With that said, get out and enjoy what we do have left before it’s gone too. Red fishing has been on fire in SWLA.
