Anyone do something like this? It's reloading .410 with home made tools.

Cliffs:
Cut off crimp. :tu
Punch out primer. :tu
Hammer in new primer. :scratch
Manually add powder, wad and shot. :tu
Put an overshot card on top and glue in place. :scratch

I want to reload #10 TSS in a 2.5 inch .410 shell. I have TPS wads on the way and TSS on my bench. Powders I have are STEEL, Longshot and Blue Dot; but it looks like I need Lil Gun or 110. Just want to reload enough for 2-3 hunts, that's all. Can't justify buying a .410 reloader just to make a box of shells. I'm dubious about using glue to hold in an overshot card, so I'm going to attempt to make a roll crimper.

Can buy a roll crimp tool that fits on a drill press or hand drill for 20 bucks from Ballistic Products.

I thought about it, since they take so little powder, and shot. Maybe a Lee load all for the little guys. Don't shoot a ton of 410, but man are they expensive for the small amount of materials they're made of.

I do this with 12s but I don’t glue them. I cut off a worn crimp and then either use longshot or 32ish gns of steel powder and a TPS 35 wad and roll crimp. Won’t reliably cycle in an auto due to short length but work fine in my o/u. I’d say gluing is just fine provided enough surface area for it

Socket for crimp, walnut wood block to resize and knock out primers, support the hull with plumbing PVC cut to length. I’ve upgraded to a mec9000, but shot these my first year messing with HTL in the 2.5” .410

Can always buy a cam and crimp starter for $20 total and help get your hulls better. WinAA loads nicer than FIO or federal. That’s the walnut block I made, with various primer holes and resizing holes drilled out. Cal also roll crimp.

I think there’s some old hw13 data for Longshot; like 9gn or a similar payload. I’ll dig it up

Start with 150gn - 180gn payload tss with 8.5gn Longshot, or 10gn Steel powder, that’s taking 3” steel shot data with slightly higher charges.

(3” Ched/ched209, 11.5gn steel powder, tps wad, 150gn steel 7’s, fold crimp, 11,800psi, 1500fps

OR

3” Ched/ched209, 9gn Longshot, TPS, 150gn steel 7’s, 12,500psi, 1390fps)

There’s also blue dot; but that pressure is pretty high to begin with in the steel load of 150gn

Also options for stretch wads that fit perfectly in the .410, Hal has load worked up for those using 3/8oz TSS, and 300-mp

I’ve had no issues shooting the HTL and that wad through cheaper .410’s

Fio 616 will have a slightly lower speed/pressure

Thanks, that's the info I was looking for. I'm just waiting for the TPS .410 wads to be delivered.
