River Barges

    I’ve hunted the Ohio where an island split the main river to narrow enough that you get ready every time you hear a barge coming because any ducks or geese on the main river pretty much have to fly ahead of the barges.

    During my years hunting the Ohio, the best we could do was be hopeful about barge and other boat traffic; the barges being mostly a PIA.

    Certain venue I hunted had a very long tressel with even longer area of flooded on both sides of tracks. A train always meant some birds were coming our way. We'd hear that whistle blowin..

    I deal with them most all winter hunting and then all spring, summer and fall fishing. Just part of it.

    Have hunted the Mississippi and Ohio all my life. Best advice is to wait till safe light to leave the bank. Aint gonna kill many mallards to 9am anyhow.
