So last year I sprayed them when feet were dry and knocked them back pretty good.

Any waterfowl food value? Heard mixed results but has seen lots of ducks around them.

If I cut them back below water surface, will the plants drown if submerged for a week or 2?

Seems like the need to be controlled or can take over a place

Thanks

Hit ‘em with Glyphosate. You’ll get a good kill eventually but might have to following up on some of the ones that hang on. In the fall however, I’ve found one treatment usually takes them all out.

As for drowning them, never tried but I’d think it wouldn’t work since I see them propagating the whole time I have water on my impoundment.

Hard to tell from the pictures, but some rushes (such as Bulrush) have some waterfowl nutritional value. But most of them don’t get thick enough to produce enough food to hold ducks for prolonged periods of time.

If it’s have them or have nothing? I’d leave it if it’s not taking over. Or spray to keep it at bay.

If it’s have them or have something more productive like ag crops, smartweeds or barnyard grass? Kill it.

So, they will respond if in water? Yes, have torch them with 2% glyphosate or 2.4D when feet are dry but never sprayed when in water. Guess the chemical will get their eventually? Stone dead with 1 treatment when dry. Thoughts? Have tons of annual smart weed but was going to knock some down and keep them at bay - will also get some grasses in late draw if I do one- lucky this year probably don’t need one. Just target spray crap and move on

Your correct, can’t drown these boogers like phragmites

If you can get smartweed going, do that. I'd rather have smartweed than corn or rice.
