I just picked up a rem 1100 3'' mag with a 30'' full choke barrel . I was going to try some Hevi but i heard it could scratch the barrel. Will steel harm the choke in the barrel?

Older fixed choke barrels are not designed to handle hard shot like steel or hevi-shot. Although I know some that do it on a limited bases. A better choice is Kent Impact Tungsten-Matrix or Bismuth. Both of these offer lead like preformance and cost about the same as hevi-shot.

You can shoot steel through a full choke. It probably won't pattern as well as with a modified choke but it will work. I wouldn't use anything over BB's in steel as the larger pellets won't pattern that well at all in a full choke.
Best thing to do is go pattern your shotgun adn see what it does with the loads you are going to use..............
