My cousins blf just had a litter of 7 with a ylm and one puppy came out spotted. The father was an AKC registered lab the mother came off a registered female aswell. The puppy in question was black and grey spotted with no color really being dominant. So whats the deal?

From what little I know about breeding dogs, a female can have seven(random #) pups from seven different dogs.

Your cousin's dog is probably a pure bred lab. It's a genetic rarity, but it does happen. Evidently an anomaly that happens once in every several hundred-thousand live births. I used to have a link showing pictures of one, but I just tried it and it no longer works.... Somebody here originally posted it sometime this past summer and maybe they can get the original pictures up.....

Mosaic is the term used. It can happen in a full bred lab breeding...it is extremely rare, but does happen. The dog is not grey & black, it is yellow & black...it's color coding never got fully linked (as I understand it). Dog will be fine, nothing different about it expect color. Is there any other yellows in the litter?

Cool dog...I take one in a heart beat.

Agreed, she is pretty unique. The pup does almost look camoed doesn't she?

I'd like to see her in a few months when the "Lab" features have filled her out.
