Oh you also asked about retail when they were made. Probably $1,000-$1,100 on the shelf for the 3.5".

My 3" had a sticker price of $999, but with sale and rebate I think I paid $825. This was about 6 or 7 years ago.

$899 for a brand new 3.5" in 2021 is an absolute steal.

It's gone unsold because it's black.
Most experienced duck hunters want a shotgun that is camouflaged just like their coats, waders, boats, flashlights, and Groove Rings.
Just for reference, I paid $1120 for mine new, in 2013. So, If you like the SX3 (and there's little reason not to), it sounds like a fair price....ESPECIALLY considering the market today.

The beauty of black is; it will look the same after 10 years of use, as opposed to camo. that fades and wears off. Buy it, you won't be sorry.

You also don’t feel so bad putting the rattle can to a black one. So you can customize it depending on the season.

While I am in no way an advocate of a 3.5” gun and think they are completely and underly ridiculous to shoot, or own...

If your after the SX4 and find an SX3 for better money, buy the 3. It’s a better gun.

If the sx4 fits you great, like posted the 4 has no shims. I always need to shim my guns it seems, this is why I didn't purchase a 4. I let a 20 ga sx-3 go and have regretted it since. I think the guns are way under-rated. They aren't flashy, they just work.

I believe all Brownings SEMIAUTO’s except the 10 ga. (and the Japanese A-5’s) are made in Belgium and assembled in Portugal? At least that has been true for my Gold & Silver.
