Yeah....the work is never easy.
A buddy is headed out to hunt teal and prairie grouse. Be a pretty exciting week.
But someone has to do it.
Bro....it's just a damn constant struggle.
Typical cluster**** for me the night before the season starts. Missed last season with a back broken in 3 places and a portal vein thrombosis. This year, I've been busy at the house making it look pretty for eventual sale next spring. Not much time to get stuff ready. My invite for opening day panned out, so I am on my own. Ok. Need to take the 30 hp outboard off the boat and put mud motor on. Good plan until winch breaks and block and tackle is toast. Don't want to try lifting it by myself (could do it 5 years ago, but I know my limits now). Ok Plan "C". Kayak. Can't find my key to my lock (locked kayak to fence.) Arrgh. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. Ok. Lets figure it out. Canoe, (13 foot), gun, shells, hat , jacket, bug spray, 1/2 dozen decoys, head lamp. I'll be good to go. Supposed to rain tomorrow. Guess I'll throw my waders in as well. Fun times.
I’ve done similar myself starting in May. Don’t forget your shells or shotgun in the opening day excitement. I’ve seen it happen.
Just in case you did, here's a little wake-up call:
Then comes the "shift change" at daylight and the sand gnats take over...
Reports for geese and teal here in Michigan are very good. Grey numbers of both and lot of birds killed this morning. Pretty decent weather too.
