Last I heard it means about a million dollars per day to Stuttgart, AR.
I saw the economic impact up close for one season just one.
Two ten man blinds in arkansas generated $5000/day.
Pumping $5k/day into a tiny town like Waldenburg matters. There's nothing there but 2 gas stations, a restaurant, and a food truck occasionally. A soft serve ice cream stand.
That wouldn't be unreasonable at all. There is a significant financial impact from waterfowl hunting in a number of states around the country. My focus was on certain states in the MS flyway, so I can't speak to places elsewhere. I have no doubt that many people will be hit hard by a bad season or two. A guide that I've used a couple of times now seems to be focusing on new leases in Oklahoma, rather than pushing his normal lands in Arkansas. He's also considering leaving the business entirely and put feelers out about possible buyers for his outfit.
Things will be bad for a while, if you are a guide or depend on duck hunting for income in some way. The writing seems to have been on the wall for more than a few of our preceding seasons.
I know Wallenberg a bit, hunted near Weiner. Do you know a guy named Kenny, by chance?
Yeah and whatever you do don't say you know me.
I'm on the chitlist there. Wish it were different.
Is kenny ok? He is the best guide I know of.
Those guys know their stuff.
Bayou Bottoms. These are rare.
There are remnants of Bayou Bottoms all around me.
Brett Montgomery made the stickers.
Please tell me Brett is alive. We were pretty tight.
Damnit...the forking cloud got rid of my pics of harpie and kenny. Rats
He was our guide two years running. Made sure my boy got his pintail for the wall. Great dude!
Kenny is a gem. His father built that club.
Kenny has hunted since he was 5 yrs old.
His dad died during duck season. He mourns in the blind every new years day. Book a hunt if you can.
Kenny had a lot of bad happen and depends on the duck thing. He takes it very serious too.
I usually don't do this but Bayou Bottoms deserves it.
Hood Lake too. Both are top notch imo.
Clearly was talking about the American side. This thread is leaving you jaded. Not sure what the Canadian laws are on draining wetlands for AG purposes but would be shocked if they were more lenient.
We still chat via FB, but finances don't allow for us to take trips at the moment. When I do get a chance to do that stuff again, Kenny will be the guy.
I can't imagine living in the duck factory but I've been there. My imagination takes over.
I imagine this farmer who has some troubles.
He needs money in 11 months so he starts planning. He needs more than usual or he loses the farm. He starts eyeballing the wetland thinking "that 600 acres, if wheat, will save the farm economy".
Think he cares about ducks?
Spend the $$$
