I had 4 tags for Wyoming this year and with the passing of my grandfather I was going to skip it. However my grandmother, who is the sweetest woman in the world, flatly told me that I would not be staying home & that I owed it to his memory to go fill my tags. My grandfather was a simple man, which is where I guess I got it from, who’s life consisted of hard work, family & big game hunting Wyoming & Colorado. He lived for this time of year. So, the wife & I packed up our boys & made the trip. The drive was smooth and scenic. We arrived about mid morning and got unpacked. With enough daylight left we loaded up and headed up the hill to our property. I had 1 doe & 1 buck antelope tag and within 200 yards of crossing our gate I filled my doe tag with a 110 yard shot on a very healthy doe antelope. This was my wife & son’s first time experiencing a big game animal being taken and broken down. They were all about it. :tu They held legs, bags and knives while I broke her down and into the cooler.

The next day we got a light dusting of snow and the temps dropped. I passed on numerous buck antelope but we had a blast.

The next day I headed out to a new area. I had 2 doe deer tags and had only found doe’s with yearlings in tow. I refuse to shoot a doe that has a young one with her. But luckily a few draws over I spotted a lone doe and closed to 200 yards. One shot and I filled that tag.

The next morning my boys & wife wanted to sleep in so I went out solo. I found a buck antelope, that I overestimated , and got to 312 yards and sent it & down he went.

The last doe tag was a true team effort. I’d gone solo that morning, it was 10 degrees outside & they opted to sleep in :l. I passed on several does due to them having yearlings. I came in around 10 am and picked them up. We were heading up to our property and I decided to check out a draw that I had wanted to look at.

The wind was blowing a solid 25-35 mph ( pretty much the whole trip ) and we made our way down the draw. My wife spotted a Group of does and we looped down wind. We got to 200 yards, my oldest boy ranged the doe my wife and I agreed didn’t have a young’n and one more ELDX and it was over. My boys drug her a few hundred yards while I went and got the truck. They helped me break her down & are hooked for life...

We’ve spent the next few days getting chores done on the 2 properties and did some exploring and shooting. It’s been a great time and I know my dad & grandfather are smiling...

Looks like a fantastic time, and bring back a flood of memories.
Id be willing to say many generations were smiling on your family, that's pretty special IMO.

My oldest boy will be able to get Tags next year and my wife said she wants to get a few antelope tags. I’m more excited for that than anything. Not to mention that’s more meat for the freezer.

you've got a lot of good times ahead, trust me.
My kids are now 23&24, and time together in the field isn't just fun, it's necessary.
I wouldn't trade it for the world, and it just gets better.
