They came low and silent yesterday out of the afternoon sun. She patiently waited for them to get right overhead (after missing every duck earlier) and on her first ever shot at her first goose this bar bellied bomber went down in the pond. She chased the wing tipped goose down and across the pond and as it disappeared on the check. It identified as a pheasant I guess, running in the cover with it’s head down and finally she got 30 yards away and popped it. Her first year hunting and I was so happy for her, way more than if I would have shot it.. Even though she is a friend’s daughter (Mom let her skip her last class of the day) I felt that proud moment we all feel as she felt the thrill of victory after the agony of defeat earlier. Yes, it is going to be mounted..
