Will tss 18g/cc shoot safely through a fixed choke barrel?

I loaded some number 8's useing Hals loads for my B390 and it uses a screw in choke. Right now I have a light modified in it and really like the pattern.

But I'm looking at my old 12 gauge 2 3/4 only sportsman auto with its 28 inch barrel and fixed modified choke and would very much like too give it a try. But not sure if it's safe to shoot such a hard/dense shot through it.

I have shot steelshot through it before.

Loads are 2 3/4, 1 once/8's at 1600fps

I shoot a lot of Fixed Choke barreled guns and wouldn't hesitate with (1) oz loads or smaller in 12 gauge guns !
I would be concerned with MOD Choke though as , that's actually , to tight , for TSS as it doesn't require much constriction !
I'm not saying don't , do it , as the patterning board will show how effective it will be at distances you normally shoot your birds !
There's no reason to use it , if you can't be successful with it ?

Yea I planned on hitting the paper with it.

Just wasnt sure if it would be safe with a fixed choke is all.

I already patterned it from my 390 with the light modified choke and really like the pattern. I like a tighter pattern then probably 99% of hunters.

So do I but with TSS patterning really , really tight don't think it would be useful inside 35 yds , without , ruining your birds and what good is that ?
Duplexing TSS / Steel ( like 8's and 3's ) might be intriguing , if you do , show us a pattern or two ?

I will never do any duplex loads. I just dont like the idea of it.

From what I'm seeing so far with the 390 and the light modified choke. 1 once of 6,7,7.5 and 8's should be perfect for ducks and geese and how I hunt.

I'm lucky if I go through half a case a year now and that includes snow goose season. So going straight tss isnt really a money issue for me.

Going to put the load on paper tommorw with the fixed modified gun and see what it looks like.

You have to remember...the issue when steel come out with fixed choke barrels what mostly with thin barrels and bigger shot. So...classic old Win. M-12's with steel 2's or BB's had issues in a few guns. Bridging was the culprit. I've shot lots of moderate velocity, 1.0 oz loads of steel 3' out of a 1958 Browning A-5. With the small sizes used in lighter TSS loads...I wouldn't think twice about barrel damage. I WOULD...think twice about TSS patterns out of an older fixed choke.

Tungsten slug....

Yea I have a mid 60's Belgium mag duck with the 32 inch fixed full choke barrel.

That thing is in lovee with kent silver steel high velocity number 2's. Luckly I have 9 more cases of it, so I got shells for it for a few years. Dont use it much anymore because I hate carrying that hammer through the mud lol.

Like I stated above. I have shoot alot of high velocity and magnum loads of factory steelshot ammo through this modified barrel.

Just wasnt sure if the tss would be safe to do so because it is so much more denser/harder then steelshot.

We will see tommorw sometime how it does on paper.

Welcome to the Fuge A5B, are you talking about your older fixed choke shotgun being a Remington Sportsman 48?
