Anyone here ever do the 5 (or 4 or 6) turkey species grand slam?

If so, could you please post up info/suggestions about guides, etc?

Don't need Rio Grande info*. 1 down, 4 (or 5) to go. ;)

*post up the info for others, though, please. :)

I don't think you'd need to pay for a guide for an Eastern. They cover half the country and are quite dense in places. Do your homework, book a hotel for the week, and hunt public land, which is also fairly dense in places. No insight into the others.

The Osceola is no genetic difference from easterns. They suck as a hunt and are way overpriced.

That being said if you are still heck bent on getting one make sure you go well south of Orlando. Basically south of state road 70 to kill a true Osceola.

The state of Florida has a line up by Georgia to just spread out the pressure. Those are eastern birds north of Orlando.

I've 2 World Slams and 3 Royal & Grand Slams and soon to be 4 next year after I get another Osceola.
As H20DAD says … way overpriced and even more so, since I last went 3 years ago.
Won't go back for another peacock that doesn't respond to calling, even though some say they can call an Ocellated tom.
Besides, prices appear to have tripled :fp :doh

I still need my osceola to finish mine out. Haven't tried for it yet. :(

You aren’t missing anything. Wait until you are almost dead and spend your last coins with a guide who has spread out corn and shoot one. (This is in no way at shot at anyone.) The true ones are a max of 12-16lbs and it’s easier to get one gobbling and walk up to it and shoot it than to have it come to you gobbling. Or you can just sit still make no calls and wait for one to walk by, super fun.

Forgive my stupidity, but you are not referencing the osceola, but only the ocellated, right?

TBH, I'm really only interested in the "traditional" 5 slam...

Am I mistaken that the ocellated is basically a peacock?

Nebraska is the place for Merriam's. Grab a public land access map and head to the Pine Ridge area.
