They sure must look right to the ducks. I've killed literally thousands over odd looking old and junk decoys and continue to do it on hunts when we use my decoys. We can't ask the ducks to know for sure but when they try to land and get killed I'm guessing the answer is yes.

We lose a few decoys every year hunting a very fast moving river, even with old window weights on each one. This past season lost 11 goose decoys to the early freeze ice flows. Nothing good, just some we have picked up on last years Mississippi river spring treasure hunt. Got enough in reserve to replace them several times. Hate losing the anchor more than the decoy. Window weights getting hard to come by. Might have to go back to rail plates.

Back when we could leave decoys out all season at our blind we used anything we could get our hands on, mixed in milk jugs and two liter bottles painted black.

Used plastic decoys normally sell for a $1 a piece here now.

I liquidated a bunch of club decoys a few years ago. They were all texas rigged but some were not real pretty. About 1/2 were decent. I sold them all (175 decoys) for almost $2/a piece rigged. The Texas rigs were worth about $1 each, so I think everyone was happy with the deal.

I have been looking for decoys for 5 dollars or less but everything I find close in Alabama is 10+ dollars apiece

Well everyone around here is asking 10-12 dollars apiece for rigged used floaters and I can’t afford that
