How many world record bass are there? And how does one guy get in the same boat with multiple world records? Virgil??? :l

I thought that record had been around awhile.
The World Record Alabama Spotted Bass has been broken many times over the past several years in California. There are so many official and unofficial record weights that I've lost count. In my honest opinion. Here is a factual website link:

If you want to try and catch the world record largemouth bass, I would suggest trying Italian Slough on the California Delta. I've caught monster bass there. I heard a rumor that there is a 22lber, maybe pushing 23lber there right now. Her name is Big Bertha, she's been caught once but never landed. In my humble opinion, that's not a rumor, it's actually quite believable.

In other words it can be as big as the story requires because it wasn't actually caught

Yeah...I don't believe there's a 20lb+ largemouth living in the delta. I don't believe tgere will ever be another world record contender in any California reservoir. Those days are over...at least in our lifetime.

I don't know if there is or isn't; I just don't believe you can say you caught a fish, especially a monster, if you didn't actually land it!
