Minnesota already has a lot of refuges to watch thousands of waterfowl and never have to see a single one die or be within earshot of gunfire.

On the other hand, Minnesota seems to be trying to be beat California for the dumbest lib state in the country. So I guess you never know.

I've had several encounters with birders, both here in MN and elsewhere. Never once was one a negative ordeal. I doubt that will change any time soon.

What I can see though is...our anti-hunting DNR, on their own accord, making hunting areas less hunter friendly, and more general public friendly...now that they will be paying a fee.

I can already see the floating walking path meandering through Swan Lake!! Compliments of the DNR.

LOL
I’m not sure if it’s the change from the last commissioner (Landwehr) to the new one (Strommen) or the governor or what, but the DNR used to at least stick up for hunters at least a little. I always thought landwehr did a good job of that and also represented waterfowlers well. Not Strommen. Again, maybe she’s a puppet on the governors string, who knows, but she is not representing us hunters very well.

In five years, the "birders" will ask the DNR to make hunters purchase "THAT FEE" (stamp), to be included to their hunting license.

They will start asking that certain WMA's close the the metro be made not hunting, "because its so close to urban areas, and the noise".

What gripes me is so many of these lands that are now WMAs were purchase with hunters' donations to PF, DU, then "gifted" to the Minn DNR. And now, the political appointed DNR commissioner (Dem.) will start putting restrictions on hunting..."for the public good". Another little cut aimed at the 2nd amend. draws blood.

Legislation just passed will allow birdwatchers, photographers, "anyone", to access public hunting grounds, FOR A SMALL FEE. And, you can bet they will insist on being out there during hunting season.
That's too bad. They shouldn't be allowed in the field during hunting season.

I’m not worried at this time. Many hunters are birders too. I don’t see birders interfering with hunters. They’re not PETA.

In half the public spots in Minnesota, you do not need bird watchers ... the guys arriving at about shooting time and setting up 100 yards downwind ?
