Well, looks like we're raising a baby dove.

So how is Petey? .
Been a way for awhile, I'm guessing still safe and sound with the Mrs?

Yep, he made it through the weekend thanks to her
After the fox attack she put his cage high up on a stack of boxes in the carport and built a barricade around him with all my tools and five gallon buckets. I could barely see him.

I guess we're gonna keep him through this rainy spell and then try releasing him.....again.

After the fox got after him,y wife had me tie the cage down. We've been opening the door every morning and Petey walls down the drawbridge and hangs out in and around the carport. I finally attracted some other doves to the yard. I hope he decides to go with them.

If he does leave…… you are never going to be able to eat dove again at the house.
The wife is going to say….. How could you? That might be Petey!

This is a very good point. You might want to look into banding Petey, just so you know it isn't your wife's bird.

I suggested a band as well. It’d add a lot more entertainment to the dove hunt threads on here.

It’d be legendary if a fuger harvested petey.

You could just put a small zip tie on his foot instead of trying to find 1 band for him.

I say put bright colored zip ties on both feet so you can easily identify him, keep him around the house luring the other dove into the yard and then shoot those dove with a pellet gun.
